With over 23 years experience, Alan Bishop & Associates is one of the UK's leading experts on Pulham & Pulhamite Restoration & Renovation. We work closely with, and share our skill base with our partner company, Alan Bishop Themeworks Ltd (www.alanbishopthemeworks.co.uk), who specialise in high quality bespoke rockwork for both private clients and the leisure industry, especially zoos. (Facebook link is our partner company, Alan Bishop THEMEWORKS Ltd)
The expertise we bring to producing hand finished render rockwork is very similar to that used by Pulham's craftsmen, and it was our fascination with how they were able to achieve such stunning naturalistic rockwork that led us to research the company's background, and to continue to visit as many of the sites as possible.
Our award winning success at the 1998 Chelsea Flower Show where we reproduced a part of the Pulham rockwork found at Lord Rothschild's Waddestone Manor, saw the coming together of our commercial rockwork activity and our interest in James Pulham & Son.
Early on in the course of our research, we came across the work of Sally Festing and then Claude Hitching, who runs the definitive "Pulham Legacy" website. Claude's interest in all things Pulham is more personal because he has traced five members of this family who worked for the company, including his grandfather and great-grandfather. Anyone interested in the history of James Pulham & Son and/or looking for a comprehensive listing of the company's work, should visit Claude's excellent website; www.pulham.org.uk
We continue to discuss our own research findings with him, as well as sharing information on sites which we have surveyed, but which he has yet to visit. He in return lists us on his links page. Claude has recently published his long awaited book on Pulham. I would refer you to Claude's excellent book:
