'Little Pipers' was a private commission to carry out sympathetic repairs to an ornamental garden water feature. The main areas of damage were caused by frost and freeze/thaw action over the past 50 years. Our remit was to re-waterproof the lower pool and carry out repairs to the broken, friable and missing edges to the features tiered pools.
The water feature was carefully jet-washed to remove all green algae and moss prior to commencing repairs
This photo shows how brittle the scalloped edges of the three-tiered pools had become. We were able to fix these broken pieces back. Other areas where the broken pieces were missing had to be re-modelled
Temporary shelter erected to protect our new render work repairs. Note, gas bottle which was connected to a space heater to dry out the feature, prior to carrying out repairs
This photo shows an area of broken edge which has been cleaned back to facilitate a well bonded repair
We use a range of specialist concrete repair products to ensure that all new work bonds well to the existing structure, whilst being aware of the heritage issues involved in making such repairs.
Using a sand-cement render mix which was compatible with that of the existing water feature, we carefully re-modelled the missing areas to the edges of the three tiers. The scallop shape was carved back into shape whilst the render was "green"
